Design note

The site was a workshop located in the heart of the City of Hereford on the junction of Cross Street and Friars Street which is within a 2 minute walk of the City centre. It falls within the Central Conservation Area and within the Masterplan of the Edgar Street Grid. The development includes 6 two bedroom units which are arranged over four floors, with undercroft parking offering one space per dwelling. The design approach was to create a lightweight floating corner on the first and second floors which define the adjoining streets, with large openings punched into the corner of the elevations to provide views in each direction. The fourth floor was set back from the edges of the floors below to provide a surrounding terrace and reduce the mass of the building.

Planning Permission and Conservation Area consent was granted and the site was subsequently developed using a Design and Build contract.
