The property was used as an office building for many years and had fallen into a state of disrepair when purchased by our clients. The project brief was to return the building back into a family home with a sensitive restoration scheme. Following initial sketch proposals, the decision was made to position the kitchen in the lower ground floor in order to preserve the proportions and period features of the living areas above. As the lower floor had a far lower ceiling height than the upper floors we proposed a two storey glass extension which would provide a dramatic dining room area, as well as allowing a link to the family sitting room.
The project has been featured in a number of interior design magazines and was awarded a Civic Award for the sensitive conversion of a Listed building.

In order to restore the property and provide a home that accommodates the needs of 21st century family life, Edge proposed an open plan design at basement level despite the low ceiling height with a two storey glazed extension.
The glazed ‘wall’ facing the rear garden allows natural daylight to reach the kitchen and dining room at lower floor level using a minimal and contemporary system where the glass acts as the structure.
