About us
Edge Design Workshop was established in London in 2003 by Jason Pritchard, Daniel Statham and Luke Freeman as a design led architecture and design business. It is now run solely by Jason Pritchard, from our office in the centre of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Prior to co-founding the Company, Jason Pritchard trained and worked in London for Seth Stein Architects on a number of high profile projects based in London, Toronto, and Plettenburg Bay in South Africa.
Our philosophy
We believe that high quality design results from the continuity of the design process which is informed by creating a balance between built projects and conceptual proposals. We are driven by a consistent philosophical approach, not a predetermined style, with the aim of creating buildings that embody beauty, function, sustainability and the achievement of best value through the creation of positive and dynamic working relationships with our clients and fellow consultants.
The way we work
We work closely with our clients to develop a full design brief which is tailored specifically to each project. Working from the design brief we often accompany our sketch proposals with a physical model which allows us to quickly establish the scale and massing of the proposals in a way that the client can clearly understand. The models are easily adapted throughout the design process and are often used alongside drawings when applying for planning permission as they have also proved to be of great benefit to the Local Authority planning officers. Alongside the physical models we can also provide full 3D computer visualisations to establish more detailed aspects of the scheme, such as materiality and light.
We have an extensive library of products and literature within the office from which we create a bespoke materials board to ensure that all the materials, colours and textures complement one another throughout the scheme. When designing bespoke items we also encourage our contractors to provide full scale prototypes which can be tested prior to their installation on site.
We believe that by explaining the mechanisms of architectural thinking to our clients and fellow contractors we avoid exerting too much control of the process and generate a sense of collective ownership of the project, and thereby create better buildings for all.
