Fir cottage is situated on Daisybank Road which is approximately 2 miles South of Cheltenham town centre. The site measures approximately 906 m2. Whilst the existing property is not listed, it falls within the designated Cotswold AONB.
Fir Cottage exists as a dormer bungalow and one of a small cluster of houses on Daisybank Road, where the overriding architectural expression consists of vernacular forms clad in various interpretations of local stone. The properties sit informally at varying distances from the road and at varying elevated positions. Daisybank Road is framed by boundary walls largely constructed from local stone and thick mature vegetation. Fir Cottage is the exception with open stark frontage parking, this is a discordant feature within the lane which contributes negatively to the semi-rural setting.
The brief was to create a striking modern family home with it’s own identity and yet remain congruent to it’s rural location. The ground floor will consist of a generous entrance hall, with an open plan living space with kitchen and dining area leading from it. The living space affords clear views towards Cheltenham, large sliding doors will open out onto an external terrace creating a seamless transition between internal and external space.
